AROUND
Museums, Library, Churches, Cinema, Hospital, Restaurants, Bars and all services at your fingertips.
Thanks to its strategic position, it is the ideal structure for visiting the city.
In the immediate vicinity there are some of the most popular meeting places for the people of Forlì, and the main services such as bars, restaurants, pizzerias, wine bars and shops of all kinds.
The adjacent Cathedral of Santa Croce is the Cathedral of Forlì as well as the seat of the bishop of the archdiocese Forlì - Bertinoro, it is considered the most solemn of the cathedrals of Romagna. The first information on the origins of the building dates back to the 10th century but, over the course of history, the Cathedral has undergone numerous changes. In the nineteenth it was almost completely rebuilt with the imposing neoclassical appearance it presents today.
Ancient and popular cults culminate in the veneration of the Madonna del Fuoco, protector of the city, and patron saint who is celebrated on the fourth of February.

Curiosity:
On the night of February 4, 1428, a fire broke out in the house of the Lombardino da Ripapetrosa schoolmaster, leaving the woodcut of the Virgin intact. From that moment the image was moved to the cathedral where it is still venerated with the name of Madonna del Fuoco, patron saint of the city. In the iconography the Virgin is depicted with the Child while the sun and the moon stand out on the sides, symbols, in the ancient pagan cult, of the Italic god Janus. Following the miracle, the image of the Madonna del Fuoco was painted on the back of the agricultural cart and in the majolica tiles to be placed at the entrance of the houses to prevent fires. The peasants celebrated the Madonna del Fuoco every year as early as the evening of February 3 with focarine, fires of jubilation in the fields.
Nowadays, on February 4th, the streets around the cathedral are filled with stalls with the typical piadina of the 'Madonna del Fuoco', sweet and spiced with anise.

FORLI' BACKGROUND:
Founded by the Romans in the 2nd century BC. C. with the name of Forum Livii, at the intersection of the consular road with the road that led to Tuscany, the city is located in the eastern part of the Po Valley along the Via Emilia about 30 kilometers from the seaside resorts of the Adriatic coast and at the foot of the green hills of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines.
Forlì retains significant traces of both the Romanesque and the Renaissance periods, which saw Caterina Sforza the undisputed lady of the city. Also noteworthy is the presence of a rich heritage from the rationalist period of the 1920s and 1930s.

WHEN TO GO AND WHAT TO SEE
In the historic center, the two main roads of Roman origin are recognizable, divided into the four main courses (Mazzini, Garibaldi, Diaz and della Repubblica), which converge on Piazza A. Saffi. Some of the most representative buildings of the various city eras overlook it:
• the Romanesque basilica of San Mercuriale with its imposing original 12th century bell tower;
• the Town Hall, seat of the Town Hall, dating back to the fourteenth century and remodeled several times, with the Clock Tower;
• the fifteenth-century Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo Albertini, home to interesting exhibitions;
• the twentieth-century Palazzo delle Poste, an example of twenty-year architecture of which we also find significant traces in the buildings of Viale della Libertà, including the recently renovated EX-Gil and Piazzale della Vittoria, near the railway station.

The Ordelaffi family's dominion over the city, which lasted about two centuries, meant that Forlì was enriched with noble palaces that can be admired walking along the streets of the historic center, in particular Corso Garibaldi and Via P. Maroncelli. Pino III Ordelaffi was responsible for the fortification of the Rocca di Ravaldino completed in 1480, now dedicated to Caterina Sforza.
Forlì is a destination that can be visited throughout the year. In the summer period, in particular with the "Summer Squares" review and the rich program of shows of the San Domenico Arena, the city comes alive with numerous cultural initiatives that allow you to experience the historic center through access to places normally not that can be visited and the enhancement of artistic beauties, even in the most unknown corners of the city.
Also not to be missed is a visit to the Franco Agosto Urban Park, a few hundred meters from Piazza Saffi, a unique green area that covers an area of 26 hectares bordered by the Montone River. The area has a pond with free-range geese and ducks, a sports center with basketball, five-a-side football, beach, bowls and a riding stable. There are also spaces equipped for children with bouncy castles and other games, a fitness trail and various refreshment points. The museum complex of San Domenico, in the heart of the historic center, is worth a visit. Home to the oldest section of the Pinacoteca, a catalyst for visitors thanks to the prestigious exhibitions, this year dedicated to Dante. The complex houses the famous Hebe by Canova and the Lady of Jasmines by Lorenzo Di Credi.

ON THE TABLE
The symbolic dish of the Forlì area is passatelli strictly cooked in broth. How can do we not disdain a steaming piadina in the typical kiosks? Good with any filling, it is best enjoyed with squacquerone, a soft cheese typical of the area, ricotta or cured meats, always accompanied by Sangiovese, the good red wine of the Romagna hills.
